Writings On My Planner In This Year So Far

Sunday, July 5, 2020

It's already July! And I must say that this is such a great feat, to be able to go through the year despite many things that may be weighing us down. Let's give ourselves a pat at the back.

Life nowadays is pretty much the same old. Do you guys still write on your planners or journals? Because I still do, and perhaps more than ever before.. if I were to bring out my planners from the previous years, I can share with you that this is probably the year I've written the most.

I'm somehow happy about that, because it means I've had more time to sit down and write with a pen in hand, and while for this year I may not be writing about the restaurants I've dined in, or the coffee shops I made a home out of, I can say that there's still many things to write about and to look forward to.

I've always felt a certain kind of excitement whenever I reach out to my planner, because for sure I'd be filling it up with plans. But these past few months, it's been more than just that. I'd like to share with you a bit of the writings on my planner in this year so far---

I write about my day - I like to remember my days, so I write a word, a phrase, or sometimes even a sentence about what went right and what went wrong. I allow myself to feel the feels, to feel a variety of emotions. Life is not always cheery, but we try to be!

One thing for certain is that I have accumulated more joy through the small but certain happiness that presents itself daily. For me lately, it's been the spotting of flowers from our fruit-bearing plants. This is because they bloom so momentarily, for a half day only, so seeing them is much like discovering a secret treasure in the midst of the green leaves.

I write about something new I learned, or knowledge nuggets - this would be all about the new things I've learned or discovered. Sometimes it's a new song that I've played on repeat, and sometimes it's a gardening tip my dad and I learned from Youtube.

I write about weekend plans - because yes, the weekend still exists no matter how the days keep blurring by. More gardening time, more time for sleep (even though I wake up at 7AM by default), and more time to simply keep doing what I love... while at home. These for me are already weekend plans. I realized how we shouldn't lose sight of these activities that excites us. They enrich us, and engaging in them surely improves our quality of life.

I still have birthdays and holidays written down - there are days still very much worth celebrating, no matter what the circumstance. It's just a challenge now to make others feel more special, but I admire seeing people going out of their way to make special videos, Instagram bingo cards, or even sending cakes directly to their beloved friend's house.. it warms my heart still. It's during this time we realize how our close relationships with people knows no bounds.

To quickly share too, my dad celebrated his 60th birthday last May. I originally had something 'grand' planned, but it didn't push through since we were still in the midst of the lockdown. Instead, we spent it inside our home and had a simple program of eating good food and watching a video I compiled. It made me realize, how simply 'grand' it was to be able to spend it with family. To be alive and well, safe and healthy, what more can we ask for?

The holidays for me feel like a gift. It still makes a difference to not to be opening my work laptop while at home, and not hearing the Outlook and Slack notifications.

I write about what I want to write about - when I have random ideas, I have to write them down right away, or else they might escape me! This includes my blog ideas. I used to write them all down on my cellphone's notepad while stuck in traffic, but now I'm able to write them all down straight on my planner.

Earlier before the quarantine period, my planner was pretty structured with going out plans. Before during my younger days, it felt like a scrapbook. Now, it feels like a diary. But I think planners can be anything we want it to be.. or at least I'm glad my Muji planner gives me some flexibility (please note, not a sponsored post!), since it has a minimal design. It's also interesting how my purpose for keeping one has evolved as the years went by.

I sometimes think as well, how it would be nice to read about how I spent my days during this unique time. Which songs did I listen to? What were my feelings like? What did I enjoy doing? What new things did I come to love? It's nice to have my blog and to be sharing my thoughts and writings to you, dear reader. But there's also that magic and peace of writing with pen and paper. It could be a journal, a planner, a notebook, or what have you. I intend to keep experiencing that same magic alongside keeping this garden of words alive (a.k.a. my blog). : - )

---

How could it be July already? I have yet to process the June happenings... but I'll take that offline on my own time, probably while I'm watering all the plants in our garden hehe. How are you? I hope you're doing well and your Sunday is lovely. I'll see you around here again soon.

  1. I've always had a hard time being consistent with my journals/planners and maybe it would be helpful to just combine the two lol. I like your approach though & I agree blogs are always a good way to keep track of thoughts as well! Happy July! ♡

    1. Happy July!! :) I hope you're doing well. I have this pattern with planners that I would usually be writing on it during the first half of the year, but then eventually I would feel like the days would go by so fast and I wouldn't have enough time to pause and write, so I would end up with empty pages for the second half of the year haha. Blogs are lovely, because I love hearing and learning from other' experiences. Thank you for your time with me on here ♡♡♡

  2. Lovely post :) I really like the idea of planning and keeping a planner, journal and so on. It not only helps you to spend days in a good, not wasted way but also is a beautiful thing in the future when you are bringing back memories about this time. Btw, your planner looks cute! I hope you're enjoying Sunday as well as I do ♡ Kisses!

    1. I very much agree with you, Ann! I tend to get sentimental sometimes, and I would look through my earlier writings either in my blog or my journals; it feels like I'm speaking with my younger self, and I realize that while much has remained, much has also changed. Thank you so much for your kind words, and I hope your weekend is wonderful as well. ♡♡♡

  3. I feel you about planners!! I try my best to still write in them however I can... Like I write when my packages will deliver. I should better utilize my planner to write about what happened! I got some birthdays written down :). I like that you also talk about what songs you listen to. I can't believe we're in the second half of the year. Too much happened during the first six months alone.

    1. Writing down the date of when we expect our packages will arrive is surely something to look forward to! The first six months of this year really was something entirely unique for everyone. Despite being at home most of the time, life still went on, and until now we're doing our best to carry on... I remain hopeful for the rest of this year; truly hoping things get better, the outside world becomes safe, and people will be kinder huhu. Thank you for your time with me on here, and I hope your weekend is great so far ♡♡♡

  4. Waahhh I love your planner!!! And sameee, even though nothing's really happening lately but I had more entry on my planner than before. I think it's because we have more time now to go around our planners and journals. The isolation gave us more time for introspection. Haha and again I love your planner! Is that a Muji? :)

    1. Introspection is a great thing, indeed! And yes, you're right, my planner is Muji. Muji has been my planner for 3 straight years now and I'm not planning on changing it any year soon because it works well for me :") hope your weekend is great so far, Gillian!!

    1. Hello Ellie, welcome back online! :) Hope all is well with you, especially with your studies. It's super nice to be disconnected actually from the online world; I admire your commitment through it! Bullet journals can take up a bit more time than the usual planner/journal, but I guess it depends on our styles too. Hope you get to start again! :) ♡♡

  6. I bought a Hobonichi a couple of years back and another for this year and it's the only journal/planner that I've actually kept writing in each and every evening.

    1. I've considered getting a Hobonichi before, but didn't have the funds for it yet.. I think I was in high school back then haha! I might just try it out.. perhaps next year :") it's great that you've been writing on it consistently! It's good that you've found your go-to journal/planner ;)

  7. Gosh I love a good planner, more than anything just being able to go back through it and have a look what I've done throughout the year! I've been so bad with it recently, but I think I might give it another shot - time flies, I can't believe it's July now either! Lovely post as always <3
