Reason For The Season

I'm joining Blogmas this year! The simplest way I can think of in describing Blogmas is that it's a blog series during Christmas season wherein people get to write about anything related to Christmas (or any topic, for that matter!) for a number of consecutive days. I'm choosing to post for 12 days straight. Hope you enjoy, dear reader. This is my gift to you.

Now before the Blogmas, the Christmas parties, the family reunions, the Christmas decorations, the gift shopping, the lights shows, the music festivals and plays, and what have yous, whatever it is that makes you feel ~*~Christmassy~*~, no amount of human made tradition can make up for what Christmas really is.

John 1:9-13The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

There are many, many things that can potentially distract us from the real reason why we celebrate Christmas. But anything that catches our affection, efforts, and attention is an idol. It's easy for us to lose ourselves in all these things that makes Christmas so attractive. We find comfort with seeing familiar faces we may be seeing only once a year, whether it family members or friends. We're overjoyed whenever we receive gifts from our loved ones.

But what if we had none of these? Would it still be "Christmas"? It's a reality that some people face. Let's not lose the real essence of the season; and that's to know and remember that Love came down here on earth, that God has given us the ultimate gift, and that is Jesus.

John 1:14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This is why with or without all of the things I mentioned above, there will always be a reason to rejoice.

This season, I'm reminded that we gather in His name. We see our family and friends and we thank God for them because they're alive and well. I'm able to give gifts to my loved ones, because God has blessed me throughout the year so that I'm able to bless others. I believe we're able to experience all these things only because God is good.

More than all these festivities, may all our actions be glorifying to God, may we be mindful and experience pure joy in anticipation for the birth of Jesus. For in His name alone are we saved. God be praised.
