Daily Skincare Essentials

This seems to be one of the staple blog posts alongside What's In My Bag entries. Here we go!

I entitled this as "Daily Skincare Essentials" simply because I wanted to share what I use on my skin daily (or when I'm not lazy). It's nothing at all like a religious 10 step routine to follow, but just simply a way for me to take care of my skin.

I also have a goal, that I should be able to maintain my face even while working, even when I commute everyday, and even when there are times I don't get enough hours of sleep.

BEFORE WORK

Wash my face with water
My mom used to scold me when she'd find me washing my face with facial wash first thing in the morning. She told me it wasn't necessary since the skin produces natural oils at night and using facial wash strips it all off and may dry it. So ever since then I've just been washing my face with cold water, which I find refreshing. I know there are great facial washes out there with low pH levels and are recommended, but I find that just water works fine.

Apply sun screen
This has definitely become an essential for me. I'm one of those people who used to think that sunscreen is only for when I go to the beach. I also hate the strong scent most sunscreens have, but then after purchasing my first tube of COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream, my mornings have never been the same. I always place this on my face after washing my face with water. This may not be as lightweight as other brands may be (I've heard a few things here and there), but it works well for me. It gives my skin a bit of unexpected glow, and it doesn't make my face oily at all.

AFTER WORK

Cleansing Lotion
I don't wear make up everyday. But when I do, I just put on enough to make me look neat/presentable... a.k.a. BB cream, face powder, mascara, and lip tint. Before washing my face with cleansing foam, I make sure to take out my make up first with Garnier's Softening Cleansing Lotion.

This lotion works really well for me because it's effective in taking off my make up and it moisturizes my skin at the same time. I feel like Mulan when she removed her make up with her sleeve in just one swipe:

Facial Wash
Cleansing will always be an important step. I use Etude House's Happy Essential Foam Collagen. It's easy to use and it foams easily. It doesn't have a strong scent.

Toner
I admire Clinique's 3-Step Skincare which is simply: Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize. I kind of patterned my routine after that. I never really knew why Toner was important, however I learned that this is important in getting rid of excess dirt and oils. I use Clinique's Clarifying Lotion number 3 because I have oily skin. While I am aware that it contains alcohol, I don't necessarily have to apply this generously to my face. Just a few drops onto the cotton ball would do. It works best so far for my skin, that's why I've kept this for some time now.

Moisturizer
My go to moisturizer was Nivea, however I've run out and I'm now using Superdrug Naturally Radiant Renewing Night Cream. I've always feared that moisturizer would make my skin oilier than it already is. But then it actually lessens the oiliness, and I like waking up with soft skin.

Face Mask
This one's a bonus, and I do it twice a week. I've been doing Facial Wash then Face Mask back in college, but then ever since I started working, that's the only time I added the Toner and Moisturizer. This one's really just an extra, and mostly for days when I want to reward myself after a long day.

I just want to keep it simple, and so far this groove works best for me. What's your daily skincare routine like? :)

  1. Skin care is so important! I like a face mask every once in a while but I never do it more than once a week because of how sensitive my skin is!

    1. I agree with you that skin care is important. Masking once a week is good enough! :) It's also good to know the ingredients of the masks you use so that it won't irritate your skin as much

  8. In the morning sometimes I'll cleanse my face but most of the time I just put on a moisturizer with spf. My evening skincare routine can be long depending on how I'm feeling lol.
